Sifu Phil Romero on Reviving Wing Chun in 2018

Image
Sifu Romero began martial arts at the age of 14, studying Northern Shaolin and TaiChi in Albuquerque, NM. After high school, he moved to Culver City, Los Angeles to pursue a career in the film industry. There, he met Grandmaster Hawkins Cheung, a childhood friend of Bruce Lee and Ip Man’s most senior US student. I absolutely loved this interview with Sifu Romero and especially the wisdom he shared about being a part of your students lives and shedding the ‘Teacher/Master’ persona so that you may connect with people on a deeper level. Sifu Mark Phillips On How To Have A Strong Mindset – Personal Development Through Martial Arts

Dr. Mark Phillips began his study of Wing Chun in 1986 under Master James Sinclair. Now after twenty seven years of professional teaching, he is ranked as one of the leading instructors in the UK Wing Chun Assoc and is a registered instructor with the prestigious ‘Ving Tsun Athletic Association’ in Hong Kong as so. Now, this was a very interesting conversation. I got a chance to sit down and pick Mark’s brains on what he feels makes a strong mindset for martial arts and for life. My favorite part was the idea that we all need to embrace failure and that we need to set small milestones to always look at the next step. If you’ve enjoyed this podcast episode, please share it as it will also help me on my journey towards helping one million people unleash their power and heal themselves. Thank you! Wing Chun Podcast – The Sifu’s Stories, Episode 23 – Sifu Mark Hobbs And Using Wing Chun In MMA

Sifu Mark Hobbs discovered martial arts from a young age. He discovered Wing Chun at the age of 16, after starting with Judo and Boxing. He started teaching MMA, ‘by accident’. When his students saw his grappling capabilities in a sparring match they asked to learn more about that and he had fighters asking him to train them. I personally found the conversation very interesting and I appreciated his openness and straight forward approach to martial arts.
