How to Heal Migraines

What does it take to heal the seemingly inevitable onslaught of a migraine? I have worked with hundreds of patients to successfully discover the causes behind the migraines and relieve their suffering. If you’re interested in uncovering the causes and combatting your own migraines, here’s what you need to know:

Migraines are caused by a blood vessel contracting inside of your brain and then expanding quickly. This can be triggered by quite a few different things, including: Hormonal imbalances, food related allergic or chemical reactions, a genetic imbalance called methylation and severe fatigue. Each of these causes can be discovered and healed in a few different ways.

Hormonal Imbalance

The best treatment for a hormonal imbalance is to use acupuncture and herbal medicine. These techniques do a great job of helping to balance your hormones at certain times.

Food Related

The first thing I advise to patients who suspect a food related reaction or trigger is to start with cutting out dairy or gluten. Many times, these are the cause and are easy things to cut out first before trying something else. After that, you should try going in for testing in order to find out what else it might be. Other foods that cause chemical reactions tend to be wine, chocolate, coffee, certain sausages and more. What they have in common are high amounts of nitrates and sulfates which cause migraines in people who are more sensitive to these things.

Genetic Imbalance – Methylation

When it comes to genetic imbalance, there are a few great supplements that are able to help your body achieve balance and correct the migraine situation. Among other nutrients, some of the supplements that people tend to turn to for this include: Methylated folic acid and methylated B12.

Severe Fatigue

Overworking yourself and not listening to your body enough to stop when it needs rest can also be a cause of migraines. I found this out the hard way when I realized that I was getting migraines only on my days off from work. When you work, work, work and ignore the signs of fatigue, your body will finally react when you take a moment to breathe. In this case, acupuncture saved me. It is a well-known method to combat fatigue and regain energy while stimulating your body to begin healing itself.

Maybe you know the cause of your migraines and if so, it’s time to get started listening to your body and allowing it to heal. If you’re still not sure what is triggering them, work through the different suggestions I listed above. These methods have worked for many patients with chronic migraines and they can certainly work for you too.
