What’s Love Got to Do With It?

Image
Love is the most healing force in the universe. There are different ways that this is true, but today I’m going to focus on how our energy and love are connected on a cellular level. After 30 years of practicing Chinese Medicine, I’ve learned a lot. One of my favorite aspects of the discipline is the idea that we’re all made up of energy that travels throughout our bodies. The Power Of Love This energy acts as the controlling force in our bodies and is the essence that connects everything in the universe. There is a communication system that is happening constantly between our cells and those around us. This communication is powered by love, which brings the cells together and creates a sort of interfacing language allowing them to interact. Healing That which Ails You One of the greatest things you can do for yourself when it comes to healing is to focus on love. A lot of times when we are ill we tend to get frustrated and angry at our bodies because we feel like they are being m...

Needle Migration in the neck

Comments by Michael Meinen and Mike Cummings Case report El-Wahsh S, Efendy J & Sheridan M. Migration of self-introduced acupuncture needle into the brainstem. J Neurosci Rural Pract 2018; 9(3): 434 – 436. Lateral cervical spine x ray film showing the 0.25x30mm needle within the muscle layer. Presentation An elderly man presented to an emergency department after an acupuncture needle (which he had inserted himself) had broken off in the attempt to withdraw it.[1] Exploration of the neck was unsuccessful, and the patient required a CT scan to locate the needle (ultrasound failed to locate it); four days after initial presentation, it had migrated cranially through the foramen magnum and pierced the dura mater with the tip resting in the brainstem. It had to be removed by open surgery, followed by a patch repair of the dura mater. The tip of the needle was angulated. The patient made a good recovery and was free of symptoms at follow-up after a month. Discussion Accidental pe...

13 Inspiring Instagrammers to Follow for Healthy, Feel-Good Food

Image
I’m so excited about this post, I’m not sure why I didn’t do it sooner! I love being able to use my site not only to share the recipes I’m excited about cooking, but to highlight other cooks who inspire me. Many of them have Instagram accounts, so I thought I’d pull together a list of a few favorites. My hope is that they’ll all inspire you to want to jump into the kitchen. They tend to celebrate lots of plants and vegetables, and generally integrate food, cooking, balance, and wellness into their lives in a way that inspires others. I actually have a much longer list, so think of this as the first installment. And, if you’re into it, I’ll share more! – Ellen Fisher / @ellenfisher – I love this family. Watching the kids grow up on Ellen’s You Tube channel has been amazing, their love for good food and nature from the time they were tiny is inspiring to all. One love! :)! – Alaina Sullivan / @alasully – She’s on design over at Bon Appétit Magazine, but she’s actually one of my favo...

Dry Needling vs. Acupuncture?

Although the practice of Dry Needling (DN) began to develop in the US in the 1940s, it was not until acupuncture made its way to North America in the 1970s that significant interest in DN took hold. Dry Needling is defined as the insertion of needles into tender points in the body without the injection of substances. Typically, DN is used to treat musculoskeletal disorders, especially myofascial pain. The technique revolves around the identification of tender points (trigger points) in the body. The perceived correlation between acupuncture and DN is a source of disagreement, especially in the United States, where the practices of acupuncture and DN rarely converge. While those practicing DN maintain that the practice was developed in isolation from acupuncture, those who practice acupuncture believe that traditional acupuncture encompasses all dry needle insertion techniques. In Canada, however, practitioners have been fortunate to avoid this controversy because of the long history o...
